The New York fall auctions got underway last night with Phillips’s 246-lot New Now sale, which realized $8.3 million at a sell-through rate of 85% by lot. The top five lots from the evening were as follows:
- Anish Kapoor, Untitled (2011) sold for $469,900.
- Ed Clark, Gray Force (1972) sold for $380,001.
- Kenny Scharf, Curvabolatrap (1986-1987) sold for $247, 650.
- Kehinde Wiley, Untitled (2003) sold for $241,300.
- Gilbert & George, Man-God (1988) sold for $234,950.
Several artists also made major auction debuts. These included:
- Elitsa Ristova, whose work It’s just a thought (2020) sold for $165,100.
- Diedrick Brackens (featured in The Artsy Vanguard 2019), whose work slain garden (2017) sold for $25,400.
- Scout Zabinski, whose work Full Bloom (2022) sold for $15,240.
- Coady Brown, whose work Caught Up (2020) sold for $10,765.
The sale also featured a number of auction records for works by emerging artists, including:
- Nikki Maloof, whose work After Hours (2019) sold for $53,340.
- Che Lovelace, whose work Street Dancers (2021) sold for $38,100.
- Jessie Homer French, whose work Camarillo (1988) sold for $33,020.
