Sotheby’s concluded its 341-lot “Contemporary Curated” sale last night in New York with a hammer total of $25.1 million, inclusive of Sotheby's buyer’s premium and overhead premium.
The top 10 lots from the night were as follows:
- Lee Bontecou’s Untitled (1959-60) sold for $2.1 million.
- Ernie Barnes’s Club 55 (1990/94) sold for $1.1 million.
- Helen Frankenthaler’s Invoke (1984) sold for $1.1 million.
- Robert Motherwell’s Gulfstream (1980) sold for $889,000.
- Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Muscles of Right Orbit (1985) sold for $723,900.
- Cady Noland’s Managing Rabble (1994) sold for $762,000.
- Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Still #21 (1978) sold for $571,500.
- Tom Wesselmann’s Great American Nude No. 43 (1963) sold for $508,000.
- Alexander Calder’s Base jaune (1970) sold for $482,600.
- Ed Ruscha’s Me (1970) sold for $482,600.
The sale also featured major auction records for works by artists, including:
- Alice Baber, whose Wind Divided Mist the Darker (1971) sold for $698,500.
- Camille Henrot, whose Retreat from Investment (2015) sold for $342,900.
