Almine Rech opens new U.S. flagship gallery in New York’s Tribeca. https://ift.tt/0FCqLum

Almine Rech, the Paris-born gallery with an international presence spanning Monaco, Gstaad, Venice, Brussels, London, Shanghai, and New York, will open its second U.S. flagship in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood today. Located at 361 Broadway, the gallery has undergone extensive renovations, resulting in a spacious 10,000 square feet of elegant 19th-century architecture. The gallery's original New York venue, launched in 2016, will continue its operations on the Upper East Side.

The gallery will commemorate its grand opening with American artist Vaughn Spann’s first solo presentation in the city since 2020. Inspired by the fury of impending environmental disasters, “Trilogy” comprises a series of “hurricane paintings,” vivid reflections on nature’s brutal yet stunning force. Spann created these monumental abstract canvases with his hand and forearm to mimic the vigor of natural catastrophe. The show will be on view from October 5th to 28th.

“It took us a long time to find a second gallery that would offer our artists the space to present works with a lot of freedom in size and volume,” said Almine Rech, the gallery’s eponymous founder. “I think we found the right one, for not only that, but a space that will also integrate naturally into the New York art world. We hope the New York scene will be interested to come view some of our most watched artists and see how they appropriate this new, vast space, very different from our gallery on Upper East Side.”
