Brazilian contemporary art gallery Mendes Wood DM has opened a new space in Paris. The location marks its fourth location in addition to locations in São Paulo, New York, and Brussels.

The gallery, founded by Felipe Dmab, Matthew Wood, and Pedro Mendes, is known for its focus on conceptualism, political resistance, and intellectual rigor. Over the years, it has built a reputation for fostering critical dialogue and cross-pollination in the art world, representing a diverse range of artists from various nationalities and generations.

Mendes Wood DM’s new Parisian location is in the historic Place des Vosges, the city’s oldest planned square. Built between 1605 and 1612 in the heart of the Marais district, the square is renowned for its red-brick facades and has been a longstanding hub for artists and intellectuals, including Victor Hugo.

Inaugurating Mendes Wood DM Paris will be the group show “I See No Difference Between a Handshake and a Poem.” Curated by Fernanda Brenner, it takes its title from a 1960 letter by poet Paul Celan and explores the theme of touch across different contexts and time periods. Featuring Paulo Nazareth, Tosh Basco, and Armando Andrade Tudela, among others, the show invites viewers to reconsider our relationships with both living and non-living beings, suggesting that all things exist through mutual engagement. The show opened on October 14th.
