New Delhi’s Nature Morte announces new Mumbai space. https://ift.tt/rCjthBu

New Delhi–based Nature Morte has announced a new branch in Mumbai, slated to open later this month. The inaugural exhibition will be a solo show by Indian artist Subodh Gupta, reflecting the gallery’s commitment to showcasing regional talent.

The Mumbai space, designed by Rajiv Saini Associates, will diverge from the traditional white-cube gallery, offering a more intimate experience. The expansion reflects Nature Morte’s strategy to increase its international presence, which includes plans for collaborations with artists like Alicja Kwade.

Located in the Dhanraj Mahal building in Mumbai’s gallery district, Colaba, the new outpost will usher in a new era for the gallery, catering to the more experimental collector base in Mumbai. Known for representing artists like Bharti Kher and Ayesha Singh, Nature Morte also joins an increasing number of Indian galleries opening second locations across the country, alongside tastemakers such as Kolkata-based Experimenter.

Nature Morte’s solo presentation of Gupta’s new paintings and sculptures will be on view beginning on January 18th. Further down the calendar, Nature Morte has announced plans to exhibit Thukral & Tagra and the Italian photographer Lorenzo Vitturi.
