British artist Tracey Emin will be made a dame for her substantial contributions to the art world. Born in 1963, Emin is known for her intimate and confessional style. As one of the Young British Artists, she rose to prominence in the 1990s for works such as My Bed (1999) and Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963–1995 (1995), which mined her personal experiences.
An MA graduate from the Royal College of Art, Emin is included in the King’s Birthday Honours list alongside Imelda Staunton and Monica Ali.
Last fall, Emin mounted her exhibition “Lovers Grave” at White Cube in New York, presenting 26 new works that emerged from her struggle with bladder cancer. Her most recent show will be on view at Xavier Hufkens in Brussels until July 27th, before moving to the gallery’s London location this September.
Today, Emin’s expressive, sensual paintings are among the most in-demand works by women artists on the primary and secondary markets. Her works are held in collections such as the Tate and the Museum of Modern Art.
