Frieze Los Angeles 2025 opened to VIPs on Thursday, February 20, drawing major collectors, curators, and Hollywood stars, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kid Cudi, and Katie Couric, among others. Reported sales on the day were led by a $2.8 million Elizabeth Peyton painting at David Zwirner’s booth.
Returning to Santa Monica Airport for its sixth edition, the fair opened amid concerns that the recent fires might deter attendance. However, fears proved unfounded, as a robust stream of visitors filled the tent throughout the opening day. Dealers reported steady sales, with notable early transactions in the six and seven-figure ranges spanning blue-chip, midcareer, and rising artists.
“Los Angeles is like a phoenix rising from the ashes,” said participating gallerist Jessica Silverman. “Frieze L.A. continues to be an essential fixture in the international art world calendar.”
Multiple galleries reported sold-out booths, including David Kordansky Gallery, which features a solo presentation of Maia Cruz Palileo’s paintings, which range in price from $8,000 to $80,000; and Casey Kaplan, which is showing paintings by Sydney Cain, priced around $30,000 per piece.

Leading sales from Frieze Los Angeles 2025
- In addition to the Peyton work, David Zwirner sold a Noah Davis work for $2.5 million; an Alice Neel painting for $1.8 million; and a Lisa Yuskavage painting for $1.6 million. The gallery also reported the sales of two works on paper by Kai Althoff priced at $150,000–$400,000; and a piece by Emma McIntyre for $100,000.
- Gladstone Gallery sold three works by Keith Haring, including a painting on glass for $2 million, plus multiple editions of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs priced at $200,000–$300,000 each; a Ugo Rondinone painting for $240,000; and “multiple” David Salle paintings for $140,000 each.
- BLUM’s sales were led by a Yoshitomo Nara painting for $750,000. The gallery also sold works by artists including Tom Anholt, Sam Moyer, Theodora Allen, and Asuka Anastacia Ogawa.
- Pace Gallery sold Robert Indiana’s LOVE (Red Outside Blue Inside) (1966–1996) for over $500,000, alongside works by Kylie Manning and Tara Donovan.
- Almine Rech nearly sold out its solo booth of Tomokazu Matsuyama, with works priced between $100,000 and $600,000, including four institutional acquisitions. The piece Come Away With Me (2024) sold for $550,000.
- Tina Kim Gallery placed a Ha Chong-hyun work for $375,000–$400,000; a Ghada Amer bronze sculpture for $80,000–$100,000; and a Suki Seokyeong Kang work for $75,000–$90,000. The gallery also sold works by Mire Lee, Jane Yang D’Haene, and Jennifer Tee.
- White Cube’s sales included a work by Howardena Pindell for $325,000 and two Tracey Emin works for $215,000.
- Hauser & Wirth sold multiple works from its solo booth of Ambera Wellmann, presented in partnership with Company Gallery. Prices for works ranged from $150,000–$210,000.
