The São Paulo–founded gallery Mendes Wood DM has announced its representation of the French Caribbean artist Julien Creuzet. The announcement comes as Creuzet gears up to represent France at the 60th anniversary of the Venice Biennale in April. Creuzet’s upcoming exhibitions will be staged at Mendes Wood DM’s locations in Brussels, São Paulo, and Paris, with his first solo show scheduled for its Brussels branch in 2025.

Born in 1986, Creuzet has established himself as a premier voice on the complexities of the postcolonial world. His work, which comprises poetry, music, sculpture, assemblage, cinema, and animation, is celebrated for its approach to exploring historical, social, economic, and ecological themes. The Paris-based artist is also a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris.

“I am Caribbean, and I feel close to Brazil and this area called Latin America,” Creuzet said in a press statement. “I have the feeling of having an imagination in common with the artistic line of the Mendes Wood DM Gallery. The issues that run through my practice as historical, social, economic, and ecological can find echoes together worldwide. Its international dimension will allow me to be accompanied in the most beautiful way. This upcoming year will bring guidance and supportship in a national and international way through different projects that I’m grateful to take part in.”

In addition to this new representation, Creuzet also shows with Andrew Kreps Gallery in New York and Document Space in Chicago. His work is featured in the collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Fondation d’entreprise Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
