Mire Lee joins Sprüth Magers in advance of Tate Modern commission. https://ift.tt/qVWZ76U

Sprüth Magers has announced the representation of South Korean artist Mire Lee, in partnership with Tina Kim Gallery in New York and Antenna Space in Shanghai. Lee, whose work is currently part of a group exhibition “territory” at Sprüth Magers in Berlin, will create the next Hyundai Commission for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall. This will be Lee’s first major presentation in the U.K., opening to the public from October 8, 2024.

Born in Seoul in 1988, Mire Lee now lives and works between Seoul and Berlin. Lee is known for her provocative, gloopy installations and sculptures using materials like cement, silicone, and oil. Her work explores themes of sexuality, violence, and trauma through intensely physical and gruesome works.

Her recent solo exhibitions include “Black Sun” at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York in 2023, and “Look, I’m a fountain of filth raving mad with love” at Zollamt – MMK, Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main in 2022. Her work was also included in the main exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2022.
